You might not know his name, but unless you have been living under a rock for the past nine years you would certainly know his face. Rupert Grint is mainly known for his acting as Harry Potter's Ron Weasley. Since 2001 he has been seen all over the world in the ultra successful Potter movies.
Rupert Grint was brought into the world on August 24, 1988 in Harlowe a town in the south of England. He is the eldest of five children with one brother and three other sisters making up his family. Before he was handed the role of Ron, he had only been in school performances and skits. However, since he was a huge fan of the Harry Potter books, he was eager to audition for the part.
Grint had learned about the Harry Potter try outs from the BBC online website and had his heart set on being cast as Ron. His auditioning tape consisted of him mimicking his teacher and rapping. After sending in the tape he had six more auditions where he underwent a screen test. After such a long process he was eventually given the part of Ron.
After bursting onto the screen in the first Harry Potter movie, Rupert received great reviews for his performance as Ron Weasley. After the first movie everyone agreed that he had been very well cast in one of the lead roles. He was awarded for his work with several awards from different British institutions.
Besides being busy making the Harry Potter movies, Rupert has also been in Thunderpants in 2002 where he played a science nerd and Driving Lessons, in which he starred with Julie Walters in a coming of age comedy. The former was a box office bomb and the film received bad reviews from critics, but the latter was well received and earned him positive reviews for his leading role with Walters. He has also been involved with the BBC performing radio shows.
Grint has a few different movies that are going to be released in 2010 and 2011. Coming up are the two final Harry Potter movies - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part One, to be released in 2010 and Part Two to be released in 2011. Other movies coming up for release include Cherrybomb and Wild Target. He is also in the process of signing on for a movie called Eddie the Eagle Edwards.
Rupert Grint is beginning to forge a successful cinema career for himself by getting involved in a number of different film projects. His work in the Harry Potter movies and his other work have always garnered good reviews. In the most recent Harry Potter installment, many critics lauded his performance and claimed he outshone the other leading roles in the movie.
Rupert Grint also has an alternative career awaiting him if the acting gig doesn't work out for him as he has bought an ice cream truck. It was always his childhood dream to be an ice cream seller. It appears very remote that he will have to fall back on this though as there are several projects waiting for him to make the transition from the Harry Potter film franchise to more adult roles.
