You may have noticed that the world we live in today does not work by the same rules as the world we lived in a year or five years ago. The planet, and all what living here is evolving. This is normal, and yet it seems that the pace of change has accelerated. The rate of new ideas, new technologies and new life forms is sometimes "mind blowing".
I've written before about how to deal with such fast-paced changes. And yet, not really have talked about how we can meet the people around us who we are - consciously or unconsciously - crazy about all the changes.
I've seen recently in our local government. Suddenly, all sorts of bizarre (and seemingly useless) laws are being passed. These laws are going to be difficult to apply, and offer little or no benefit to the city. So what is the motivation here?
My guess is that our city and county officials locals are feeling the effects of rapid change, and instead of "going along", they are trying to grab hold of something, anything, that gives the illusion of being in control.
Do not we all there? Have we tried everything to control a situation or to cling to something that was better to let go? Since you can often see a little of ourselves in others, maybe - just maybe - they can exercise a little patience and understanding when we see people going crazy and trying to control the uncontrollable.
That does not mean that we allow our organs of government, our companies or our friends and family to use us as doormats. We can still keep people accountable, but perhaps we have to crucify them. Maybe we can find that space between righteous indignation and placid apathy which can call people to behave with integrity, but do so without making them the cause of all evils.
We all have our good days and our bad days, and all have much of a change of address. If we do our best to flow with the changes, act with integrity, and exhibit the greatest ease and grace we can muster, then our personal lives will be much more fun.
As for dealing with those who can not be so "elegant", as we imagine ourselves to be? My suggestion is to seek equilibrium, about your heart, and compassion. After all, I am sure that the funniest among us look pretty stupid to angels.
